Ongoing Project: Creating Prayer Spaces in the Virtual and Physical Worlds
Safiya Randera unites her personal journey of spiritual activism through an ongoing project that weaves together the "Space Mosque", the "Multi-Faith Prayer Circle for Palestine", and "And We Made from Water Every Living Thing" (Surah 21:30). This project bridges both the virtual and physical realms, creating sacred spaces for prayer, healing, and reflection, accessible to communities worldwide.
Multi-Faith Prayer Circle for Palestine
Call to Prayer is an extension of the virtual "Multi-Faith Prayer Circle for Palestine," where Safiya and fellow artists, writers, and activists offer a tapestry of prayers and sacred songs, seeking liberation and justice for Palestine. This project invites prayer leaders and communities from diverse faiths to join in collective prayer against apartheid, genocide, and oppression, amplifying voices of resistance and solidarity. Prayers are recorded and archived, creating a public repository accessible worldwide, allowing a global community to engage in collective spiritual practice.
Through these prayers, led by Safiya Randera, Dori Midnight, and other prayer leaders, we gather in both virtual and physical spaces to listen, feel, soften, and participate in sacred incantation. The power of collective spirituality transcends borders and barriers, offering a pathway for healing, unity, and liberation.
And We Made from Water Every Living Thing
Inspired by the Quranic verse Surah 21:30, this project centers on spiritual protection and healing over water. Through prayer and intention, Safiya creates immersive spiritual spaces focused on the vital role of water as a source of life. This project amplifies prayers for the safeguarding and sanctity of water bodies across the world, recognizing the interconnectedness of all life.
The integration of these prayer spaces is part of a larger vision to create immersive environments—whether through Safiya's Space Mosque, an installation for spiritual and communal gathering, or through virtual circles that provide spiritual protection and healing over the waters of the world.
Space Mosque
Space Mosque is an immersive installation that transforms public and private spaces into sacred environments for prayer, reflection, and community gathering. Inspired by the work of artist Saks Afridi, Safiya’s Space Mosque expands on the concept of a spiritually conscious spaceship by focusing on land, community, and personal spiritual healing.
The installation features a spiral design symbolizing inner and outer alignment, with white shrouds evoking burial cloths and offering divine protection. Healing surahs and prayers create a contemplative atmosphere, inviting participants to engage in prayer spaces that foster connection to both land and self. The Space Mosque adapts to the communities it serves, becoming a healing intervention tailored to their unique needs.
Purpose and Vision
In every form, these prayer spaces act as interventions—calling for peace, alignment, and inner and outer healing. Whether through intimate gatherings or global prayer chains, Safiya's work holds space for communities to unite through faith and shared intention, empowering individuals and groups to contribute to larger movements of justice, spirituality, and healing.
