“Your Waters" is a collaborative installation between an artist and our more-than-human and non-human intelligence. As a network of relationships, the project is co-created with AI-generated imagery using prayers as prompts, while the sound is created ceremonially by inviting Water to share what it wants with us.
The 20-minute looped single-channel video and sound experience takes place at an indoor pool, projected on a 16-meter LED screen above the water's surface.
As the video reflects on the water, it invites visitors to contemplate the Waters within themselves and our natural world. Inspired by the earth-based healer's prayers for water, the imagery draws from the concept that the water in our bodies has passed through many stages and forms, including glaciers, our ancestor's tears, and raindrops that once fell from leaves in ancient forests. The soft, soothing colours convey a sense of calmness and serenity, representing the healing power of water. The soundscape is a composition of recordings from various bodies of water recorded in ceremony by the artist with offerings and respectful requests for any messages the water would like to share. They are thoughtfully edited creating a somatic response in visitors and offering a meditative and contemplative space for reflection and connection to the sacred element.
As an initiated Water Worker in the Dagara tradition and a settler on these territories, the artist follows indigenous protocols, offering a space of cultural sensitivity and spiritual reflection.
Through its incorporation of light, sound, and the formalizing of intention, the project allows opportunities for deep elemental healing and seeks to explore how to utilize public spaces as healing spaces that support community well-being.
